One of several sites I created while in graduate school at UW-Madison, this was for the Blackwell Lab. I originally made the site using HTML/CSS (see my Inactive Sites post), but as the chemistry department transitioned to Drupal, I agreed that a Drupal site would be more easily maintained by future students. This was my first time working with Drupal (a free, open source content management system), and after a bit of a learning curve I found that it had a lot of potential.
My favorite piece of development on this site is the Publications view I set up. Each citation is entered using discrete fields, that are automatically formatted to provide the bibliography. The discrete fields allow for the entries to be viewed in multiple ways: by research focus, year of publication, or article type (review versus original research).
Behind the scenes I created a detailed FAQ to assist future students in maintaining the site. The site today still appears as I created it in 2010. See the active site: Blackwell Lab
